The original fireplace was wood burning and then converted to gas in the 1970's. The unit exhausted up the chimney which was very inefficient. From the demolition phase you can see that smoke and fire had entered the cavity between the plaster and the brick - a terrible fire hazard. The opening was realigned for a direct exhaust efficient unit. The size of the unit was doubled thus requiring the wall to be framed out to accommodate the depth. A non-combustible firebox was created with the balance of the space fully insulated with layers of foam. The finished installation is ready for interior design/ beautification.
